What do babies born in winter wear for outdoors and indoors?

I am due in Jan, 2009. I am wondering what kind of clothes are warm enough for babies indoors and outdoors. Will the onesies do for indoors, or does the baby need more? Should the baby be dressed in multiple layers for outdoors. How much will be too warm for the baby? Thanks!

  1. Onesies will be fine if your house is warm enough. You can even buy lovely soft-fleece fabric ones which have a little extra softness and warmth for Winter babies. I suggest you invest in a good snowsuit/ baby all in one for outdoor wear. Alternatively, a warm coat would do well for baby. http://skiingwithchildren.co.uk/infant_pink_snow_suit.gif My baby looked lovely in hers and it kept her lovely and warm when travelling from car- house.
  2. For outdoors I dressed my baby up in tons of warm clothes. For indoors, depending on how cold or warm my house is. I have hard wood floor so somtimes if I even ahve the heater on it will still be chilly. I would normally have him in a onsie and socks, but I kept him covered in blankets
  3. i guess it depends on how warm your house is. think about the baby as if it was you. would you walk around your house in the winter wearing a onesie? i would recommend blankets. babies love to be wrapeed in blankets more so than having too many layers. just make sure the baby is comfortable. not to hot not to cold, trust me you will know. goodluck(:
  4. my son was born in February. When inside he was in a onsie and a fleece sleeper (carters makes some really nice ones). When we went outside he was in his infant carrier with a couple of blankets over him to keep him warm. Babies need as many layers as you do to keep warm possibly one more in the beginning. They need more than just a onsie while inside...do you were shorts and a t-shirt during the winter?
  5. Onesies are good inside, just make sure you heat is at a good temp, so you don't have to put to much on the bed while the babies sleeping. Other then that I don't know my babies were born in July and September. Wasn't that cold.
  6. My daughter was born Dec 25th 07 and i bought her alot of sleepers..those are great indoors..and when you go outdoors make sure you have a blanket or a carseat cover to keep them warm..I didn't really bother with clothing until it started to warm up because sleepers seemed cozy for her...
  7. Indoors the long sleeve onesies are great and very comfortable for baby! Outdoors you will need something a bit warmer but surely he will always be in a carseat with a blanky. I put the short sleeve plain white onesies under the longsleeve onesies for added warmth!!!! Your baby will let you know if he is cold or hot.
  8. i have just had a baby and its winter here; i have my bub in onesies/jumpsuits that are thick during the day (the cold days) and just the same sort of thing at night cos we hhave the heater on. i have found that he is swaddled most of the time and with any more layers on hed overheat. that being said; i find that jumper and pants sets are thicker. just for some extra info; the nurse told me to go by the heat on their back/neck to chck temperature dont just touch their hands and think they r cold cos newborns hvave trouble regulating their temps and the bloodflow sometimes isnt the best in hands and feet in the first few weeks. goodluck and congrats!
  9. I had my baby in January of this year and I used to put her in 'sleepers' you know the ones with the feet and maybe a onesie underneath. I covered her with a blankie whenever she was napping ( and I was right there to supervise ) Just make sure you dont overdress them, they dont need hats indoors ecspecially while sleeping...overheating can cause sleep apnea which could be dangerous. I would buy a onepiece snow suit for outside with built in gloves. And always make sure they have a hat when its cold..and make sure its over thier ears.
  10. My babies were born in October, they mostly wore long sleeved gowns or long sleeved onesies with a swaddle-me in the house. Sometimes they wore a long sleeved onesie with Carter's roly-poly pants (I love these little pants) and the fleece socks from baby gap (great winter socks) We didn't take them out much, but we mostly used a Bundle-me on their carriers and a warm hat if we needed to go out and it kept them quite warm.
  11. A good rule of thumb is one layer more than what you are wearing. If you are wearing a t-shirt in the house, put a t-shirt/onesie on the baby and then another long sleeve on top. If you are wearing a long-sleeve shirt and a winter parka outside, put the same on the baby, and have a blanket on too. Always, if you are going to spend half an hour or more outside, have extra blankets along.
