How much stimulation should a caregiver give to infants? Why? Is it possible for a child to be given too much sensory stimulation? Why or why not?

  1. Yes, I think that a child can be over stimulated in some situations. The child is almost always in the mode of learning all he can as quickly as he can. However, he does need some passing of time to digest the sensory input around him in order to categorize the data and attempt to make some sense of it. If sensory input comes too rapidly and with diverse themes or complex contexts, the child may just shut down his input mode until the environment quiets down.
