  1. heis 2 days old, his feeds will vary, and so will his nappies, dont worry!
  2. Newborns typically eat around 3 ounces every four hours. The little black smears are perfectly normal. He should have around 10 dirty diapers in a 24 hour period.
  3. Hi! The hospital or your mid-wife should give you advice on his formula. Nappies, I would say between 6 and 10. Bowels - black smears - normal. Hope this helps!! Best of luck!
  4. about 2 oz every two hours and about 10 dirty diapers a day. bowel movements like that are normal in the beginning, they'll change soon enough dont worry.
  5. He should take as much as he wants. He should be having 6 or more wet diapers a day. It is normal for black sticky BM's for a few days after birth as they get their system cleared out. BM's will vary with each baby. He should be eating every 1-2 hrs.
  6. You should have a health visitor or midwife visiting still. she should be able to answer you. at two days your baby will eat what he feels like eating. His poo will be black and gunky at first and there is no set number of times per day. He will be ok.
  7. The black will soon go away. He should eat whenever he is hungry. . .about 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours is average. He will poop/pee almost every time he is ready to eat. I used to change him every time before I fed him that way he was never in a dirty diaper for long. (Unless I noticed sooner that he pooped).
  8. Probably 2-3 ounces at each feeding (about every 3 hours). Probably 4-5 wet diapers a day. Black poop is normal in newborns. It should change to a yellowish/green color after a week or so. Congrats.
  9. However much he eats, However many diapers you use and yes it's normal.
  10. Black smears are normal at this stage, he is passing the last of the amniotic fluid that he swallowed in utero. Atfter about a week his poops should change to yellowish or greenish brown and then should not turn back to black.
  11. Yes, those first few poopy diapers are black and tarrish. Perfectly normal as his digestive system gets up and working. Breast-fed babies have more poopy diapers than formula-fed ones, but they don't smell as bad. Eventually (like, within a week or two) your baby's poo will turn more yellowish than black, and if you are feeding formula, you will probably get around 2-4 poopy diapers a day. Some babies only have one a day, though, and some only one every other day. Eventually, they each find their own rythm and your baby will, too. As for how much formula at each feed - right now, probably around 2 ounces every two to three hours. Hope this helps.
  12. milk about 2-4 ozs every 2-3 hrs, he we let you know when he is hungry, feed on demand as much as he wants, nappies vary some babies go after every milk feed others dont, and his bowel movements are normal, it will change to yellowy poo in a few days.
  13. 2oz. to 3ozs a feeding and the bowel movements are fine
  14. They say to feed newborn every 3-4 hours. If you are formula feeding, only start with a 4 oz and see how much he eats. If you notice that you are wasting a lot, lower the portions to 2oz. remember to burp him half way (or more) so that he doesn't end up spitting up a lot. The dirty nappies being like black smears are normal for his age and he should grow out of it later. They usually say when your milk comes in, their pooh changes, but I'm not too sure with formula feeding. My advice... calm down and sleep as much as you can, no need to worry about petty stuff. Congratulations on the baby, and I think you will make good parents, just try not to worry about everything (pick your battles).
  15. It will depend how hungry he is not all babies follow the norm so please dont worry. Offer cooled boiled water between feed so he doesnt get dehydrated. As for the dirty nappies that will vary until his body gets into a routine. The black smeary stuff is where the body is trying to get the bowels working properly its still a mixutre of mecconium (not sure of the spelling) and "normal" faeces trying to work. If you are worried about anything speak to your midwife or health visitor, but as I say dont expect him to follwo the norm all babies vary and they will get into their own routine within a month to 6wks.
  16. Totally normal for him to be pooing black at the moment - it's the meconium (which is what gathered in his bowels while he was inside you). But over the next couple of days it should start going dark brown and then lighter as the milk goes through. With newborns most of his nappies will be dirty rather than just wet - so something between about five and nine a day? Very rough guess. They're all different - call the doc if he doesn't have one for a whole day, at this early on, but there isn't really a "should".
  17. Try to do 2 oz at a time and have him hold off a couple hours between feedings. That way he gets full and goes to sleep between meals. Bowel movements are very irregular the first few days. Also the first three or four days he might not be too hungry. Read this! Very Helpful with the first few days! http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/861775/new_baby_fatigue_how_to_cope_with_late.html?cat=25
  18. feed as much as he needs different weight babies feed differently as to hunger of child personally at 2 days i breast feed both so i cant say how much formula but normally it is a feed approx every 4 hours. if the child is obviously hungry feed him if he has done a poo or has wet a bit change normally half an hour after each feed the black is fine it probably change to green black brown yellow its normal but if its red or something then worry
